Safety on the

Safety First

Skiing & Snowboarding are exhilarating and exciting activities and give a great sense of achievement with each progression. Through experience, having organised many ski trips, we recognise that implementing just a few small safety practices, can make a big difference.

Safety is of paramount importance for all our ski school tours and all of our Suppliers complete a fully comprehensive Risk Assessment Form. We supply helmets free of charge to all clients 18 years and under, and their use is compulsory. We use only fully registered and official ski schools, lift pass companies etc.

Helmets

Safety is our priority at Topflight for Schools. It is compulsory for all students 18 years and under to wear a ski helmet and we provide these free of charge in all resorts. This offers vital additional protection to your students.

Accommodation

Each of our featured hotels completes a very comprehensive Risk Assessment Form confirming that all required safety standards have been met.

A room breakdown will generally be available approximately 2 weeks prior to departure. Students will be accommodated in multi-bedded rooms up to a maximum of 4/5 unless staying in exceptionally large rooms, apartments or cabins where more can sleep comfortably. Accompanying adults will generally be accommodated in twins & triples (Norwegian cabins 4-6). The supplement for a single room is from e105 (subject to availability)

Transportation

All coach, air and sea transportation provided as part of a tour, complies with required regulations by the appropriate regulatory body.

Free Skiing

We strongly recommend that if students are skiing while not in lessons, they are supervised by Group Leaders. Alternatively, Group Leaders need to know on which slopes students are skiing, and also know in which area they are skiing (must be of a similar or easier level to that skied on previously with one of their instructors). This is to ensure that students do not stray off recognised slopes on to blacks, mogul fields or off piste. We strongly discourage free skiing by students not under the supervision of a Group Leader, ski instructor or ski guide.

Ski Instruction

Morning and afternoon ski lessons are recommended to all groups. Some have this already added to their basic tour cost. For those that don’t we ask you to seriously consider taking afternoon lessons as it offers students the best chance to learn in a controlled, safe and professional environment. Most sessions are of 2hrs duration (Norway 1hr 30mins) and include teacher to pupil ratio of between 11-13 per class.

Ski Equipment & Ski School

All ski hire equipment providers follow international standards regarding age/height/weight/ability and equipment is of a high standard. All ski schools are registered as official ski schools, and all instructors hold the required qualification.

If not already included in your package, to minimise the risk of injury from ‘free skiing’ we recommend that groups avail of 4 hour ski lessons. Most Austrian resorts offer an instructor for 4 hours each day. Therefore groups only taking 2 hours ski lessons may have to split, with one half of the group having morning lessons and the other afternoon lessons. For groups taking 4 hours in Austria timings are generally excellent as an instructor is allocated only to that group. The local ski school will confirm lesson times generally prior to a group’s arrival in resort. They may alter these from time to time during the course of the week. Topflight for Schools will be happy to request preferred timings for a group, however the ski school will have the final decision. Group sizes will generally consist of 11-13 people per instructor. A minimum group size of 11 snowboarders of similar level is required in order to dedicate an instructor to a snowboarding group. Smaller groups will incur a supplement, in addition to supplement shown.
